According to the 2009-2010 National Pet Owners Survey conducted by the American Pet Products Association (APPA) (conducting such surveys since 1988), 62 percent of U.S. households owned a pet, which equated to 71.4 millions homes. Of this number, there were 45.6 million pet dogs and 38.2 million pet cats just in the United States alone. Add to this the birds, fish, rabbits, gerbils and hamsters, horses and ponies, reptiles and other small animals, and it is simple to see that the pet care industry is staggeringly broad and not going away...
