Microdata From the 1991 Census of Population in Britain: Applications in Marketing Research

Samples of anonymised census records (SARs) are to be released for the 1991 census in Britain. At present the proposals only cover England, Wales and Scotland, but representations are also being made to the Census Office in Northern Ireland to grant a similar request with respect to the 1991 Northern Irish census.

The value of the census lies in its comprehensiveness of coverage at a single point in time, giving rise to the only source of comparable data for small areas. The whole population is covered, including long-term residents of institutions and those living rough as well as those living at private addresses.
