As reported on Warc news this morning, Frito-Lay North and Jupiter Park's innovative repositioning of Sunchips as an eco-friendly snack has wowed the CASSIES jury, with the campaign picking up the Grand Prix and Gold awards for both Packaged Goods Food and Canadian Success Outside Canada at the Toronto award ceremony. 
 
Alongside these happy tidings, organiser the Institute of Communication Agencies said a record 177 campaigns had been entered for the 2010 awards. As well as being an increase of 34% from the previous year, this is a record high in the awards' 17-year history.
 
This steep rise seems a bit out of whack with the macro situation during 2009, with agencies and clients feeling the pinch due to the global economic downturn; indeed, David Rosenberg, CASSIES' chair of judging, said that "most" other Canadian shows had experienced a decline in entries this year.
 
Other big winners include Leo Burnett and the James Ready Brewing Company's latest James Ready Beer campaign, which scooped Gold awards in the Events Seasonal & Short Term and Small Budget categories and BBDO/Proximity and Frito Lay Canada, double Gold winners for the Become the Doritos Guru campaign, winning the top prizes in the Events, Seasonal & Short Term and Best Launch categories.
 
Two more campaigns won two gold awards apiece: DDB Canada and Bayer's Yasmin campaign (Off to a Good Start and Prescription Pharmaceuticals) and Subaru Impreza, again from DDB Canada for Subaru Canada Inc. (Auto and Best Integrated).
 
In other awards news, members of the four juries adjudging the Dubai International Advertising Festival have been appointed. Encompassing 21 experts from ten nations, the juries are to judge the best campaigns from the EMEA area - notably under-represented on the global awards calendar. Jury presidents are Amir Kassaei, Chief Creative Officer, DDB Group, Germany (TV/Cinema, Print, Outdoor, Radio and Craft Jury), David Nobay, Creative Chairman, Droga5, Australia (Direct, Sales Promotion and Interactive Jury, Integrated Jury) and Barry Cupples, CEO Asia Pacific, Omnicom Media Group, Singapore (Media Jury).
 
The awards themselves are handed out at the climax of the Dubai International Advertising Festival, to be held on the 14th-16th March 2010 at The Palladium, Dubai.
