LONDON: WARC is today launching the second WARC Prize for MENA Strategy, a $10,000 prize to reward the best strategic marketing thinking in the Middle East and North Africa.

Now in its second year, the Prize is free to enter and is open to brand owners and agencies in any marketing discipline. Full details, including entry kit and entry form, can be found on the Prize website.

Included in the overall $10,000 Prize fund is the $7,000 Grand Prix, which will go to the best paper. There are also three $1,000 Special Awards that recognise excellence in specific areas.

The Research Excellence Award will go to the best use of research in the development of strategic ideas. The Brand Rebel Award rewards the best example of a campaign departing from category norms and the Local Hero Award the best example of a challenger brand from the MENA region using smart marketing strategy to take on bigger competitors.

Wasim Basir, Director, Integrated Marketing Communications at Coca-Cola MENA will chair the judging panel. He comments: “A great strategy is a cogent and smart distillation of the problem. Once the problem is identified as such, solutions flow”, he says. “In MENA when there is so much pressure on business results it is the right strategy that will separate the winners from the also-rans”.

Other judges announced include Ahmed Al Sahhaf – General Manager of Marketing Communication, STC, Maysoun Hanna – Marketing Communications, Apple, Matthew Butterworth – Managing Director, MullenLowe MENA, Ahmad Abu Zannad – Regional Strategy Director, Leo Burnett MENA, Mona Elsayed – Regional Planning Director, JWT Gulf, Naila Fattouh – Head of Strategic Planning, FP7 Cairo, Habib Daher – Business Unit Director, OMD Egypt, Laura Chaibi – Head of Digital Research, MBC and Luca Allam – Managing Director, PHD UAE. More judges will be announced in the coming weeks.

The deadline for entries is 5 April 2018, after which a judging panel of strategy experts and senior marketers from some of the world’s biggest brands will begin their work.

TBWA\RAAD took the 2017 Grand Prix for Murr Television’s Ensa Joura, which saw the Lebanese TV station fixing potholes across the country to reinforce its leading reformist voice.
