Tokyo-based agencies claimed the top two spots in Asia in the regional agencies of the decade ranking at Cannes Lions, with third spot going to Bangkok.

The rankings were announced at Lions Live, an online event held by Cannes Lions (a sister company of WARC), and recognised sustained success at the festival since 2010.

Dentsu Inc. Tokyo was named the top agency of the decade for the region, dominating the rankings with first-place honours no less than eight times across the decade. Notable wins in its storied history include the Titanium Grand Prix in 2014 for Sound Of Honda/Ayrton Senna 1989 for Honda Internavi and Life is Electric for Panasonic, which won Japan's First Cannes Design Grand Prix in 2016.

The multi-award-winning agency is driven by its theme of “innovative creative” and key values of creativity, individuality and the ability to go beyond conventional thinking and concepts. For the decade ahead, it is focused on “moving humanity forward with our creativity”.

Coming in at second place is Hakuhodo Inc. Tokyo, having consistently landed in the Top 10 rankings for nine consecutive years, securing second place twice in 2012 and 2014. Just last year, the agency took home the Gold Design Lions for The Most Challenging Ping Pong Table for the Japan Para Table Tennis Association and has won multiple Lions for campaigns such as Gravity Cat for Sony and Green Light Run for adidas Japan in 2017.

Ogilvy Bangkok claimed the third spot on the podium, thanks to award-winning campaigns such as Mother Knows Best for Thai Life Insurance, The Secret for Voiz Waffle Chocolate and Behind the Leather for PETA Asia. The agency has appeared nine times out of 10 in the Cannes Lions Creativity Rankings with a second-place finish in 2016.

Over the last decade, just under 2,000 Lions have been won by Asia-based agencies. Since 2010, 96 individual agencies from 14 countries in the region, have been ranked by Cannes Lions.
