NEW YORK: Music publishing giant Sony BMG has inked a deal with leading London-based online music database firm Ricall to allow advertisers and computer games makers access to its back catalogue.

Sony will be the first big label to pay Ricall a commission for finding new users for its tracks. Until now the database firm has been charging a finder's fee to its clients. But with Sony tracks they will not be charged in addtion to the cost of the licence.

The deal will expand Ricall's available music to four million tracks. Comments founder and ceo Richard Corbett: "What this really means is a shift towards volume licensing. For Sony BMG, the Ricall partnership also means getting its long-tail of older, more obscure content out to more buyers."
