LONDON: UK satellite TV monopoly BSkyB has been prompted to extend its video-on-demand service following last week's launch of broadband television by near-monopoly telco BT.

The News Corporation-controlled broadcaster is extending its Sky Anytime service to the 1.7 million UK homes with a Sky+ personal video recorder. It will allow viewers to download TV programmes, movies and sports highlights.

The broadcaster is in talks with advertisers and agencies about the potential for targeted commercials.

BTVision offers the telco's broadband customers a range of on-demand film, TV and music programming, together with an interactive and communications service plus DVR technology, all available via standard TV sets [WARC News: 29-Nov-06].
