WALTHAM, Mass: Web portal Lycos on Tuesday launched a new broadband video search facility powered by Blinkx pioneering technology. The duo say they will share the ad revenues generated by the search results.

"By teaming up with Blinkx, we now offer our visitors one of the top video search engines available on the web today," hypes Lycos ceo Alfred Tolle. "As Lycos continues [its] push into building community around high-quality video content, giving users access to a best in class video search experience is critical."

Blinkx claims an index of more than five million hours of searchable video content, including favourite TV moments, news clips, short documentaries, music videos, and video blogs.

Blinkx' patented speech and pattern recognition technology makes it possible to deliver more accurate and relevant results than ordinary metadata-based search engines that mostly depend on keywords.
