Facebook provided details about the new feature in a blog post, explaining that users can browse nearby restaurants by visiting a new “Order Food” option in the Explore menu.
From there, users can then check out food options and select “Start Order” once they know what they would like from participating partners that include Papa John’s, TGI Friday’s, Denny’s, Chipotle and Five Guys.
“Today, we’re taking the time out of finding what you want to eat by officially launching the ability to order food for pick-up or delivery, directly on Facebook,” the blog post read.
“People already go to Facebook to figure out what to eat by reading about nearby restaurants, and seeing what their friends say about them. So, we’re making it even easier.”
In addition to being able to read reviews from friends about particular restaurants, users are also able to have their orders delivered via Delivery.com, DoorDash, ChowNow, Zuppler, EatStreet, Slice and Olo.
So if Facebook users already have an account with Delivery.com, the new partnership means they can place an order with their existing login.
And for those who don’t have an account with one of the delivery services, then they can quickly sign up without having to leave the Facebook app.
As TechCrunch observed, this feature will help Facebook to keep users inside its app for longer periods rather than seeing them leave for relatively minor tasks, such as ordering a pizza.
Facebook has been rolling out several other features with that same goal, TechCrunch added, such as weather information, a jobs board and movie listings.
