MUMBAI/TOKYO: Indian subscribers to Amazon Prime Video will soon be able to stream popular Japanese anime content after Amazon announced a new partnership with Tokyo-based TV Asahi Corporation.

The Japanese-style animated content, which appeals to both adults and children, will be made available to Indian consumers in December, Rapid TV News reported.

It includes TV Asahi's popular cartoons Doraemon, Shin chan and Ninja Hattori, which will be shown exclusively on Amazon Prime Video India with new episodes updated regularly.

"Amazon Prime Video in India aims to be home to a diverse mix of beloved kids' content and be the preferred entertainment choice for kids in India," said Nitesh Kripalani, Director and Country Head at Amazon Prime Video India.

"The popularity of Japanese anime has grown immensely and TV Asahi Corporation is one of Japan's leading private broadcasters who we already have a content licensing agreement with in Japan," he added. "We are thrilled to extend this relationship to India as well to bring this fantastic content to our kids."

Takahiro Kishimoto, Head of Animation, International Business Department at TV Asahi Corporation, also expressed excitement about this latest expansion of its content to other Asian markets.

"Some of our best content is going to be available on Amazon Prime Video. We hope the digital experience would take our content to the next level of popularity in India."

For Indian viewers as yet unfamiliar with TV Asahi's animations, Doraemon is a popular Japanese manga series that has been adapted into a successful anime series and media franchise.

It stars a robotic time-travelling cat named Doraemon, who travels back in time from the 22nd century to help a young boy called Nobita Nobi.

Shin chan follows the adventures of five-year-old Shinnosuke 'Shin' Nohara and his parents, baby sister, dog, neighbours and friends.

And Ninja Hattori, another manga series, was later adapted into a television drama, an anime series, video game and live-action movie. It is currently broadcast in several Asian countries.
