NEW YORK: Marla Kaplowitz, the CEO of MEC North America, has been named as the new President/CEO of the 4A's (American Association of Advertising Agencies), the trade body.

Kaplowitz will take over as head of the industry group for agencies from Nancy Hill. Her appointment follows a search process handled by MediaLink, the strategic advisory group.

Having joined MEC as President of US Client Services in March 2011, Kaplowitz took up the role of CEO/North America in October that year. Previously, she had worked at MediaVest, Ammirati Puris Lintas and DMB&B.

"As a passionate member of this industry for nearly 30 years, I'm thrilled to join the 4A's at this exciting and pivotal time for marketing and communications," she said in a statement.

Bill Koenigsberg, the Founder of Horizon Media and Chairman of the 4A's Board of Directors, suggested that Kaplowitz would help the organisation continue to meet the changing demands of a rapidly-developing marketing ecosystem.

"Marla is a dynamic force for change; she is an innovator and truly understands our top priorities for the coming years," he said.

Although Kaplowitz's official start date has not been finalised, the 4A's reported that she will be "filling the role" after Hill, who has led the organisation since 2008, departs in June 2017.

"The past nine years have been an incredible experience. I've been proud to represent and lead the industry I love through such a transformative time and advocate for issues such as transparency and diversity within advertising," Hill stated.

"I have known Marla for a long time, and her passion is evident and infectious, which is critical to doing this job well. I think leading this organisation will come naturally to her."
