John
Chaplin is Director, NOP Media Europe.
He
joined NOP Research Group in early January, having been finally allowed back in
the country after labouring in the colonial vineyards for more than a quarter
century.
He
worked in Canada initially as Vice President of Media at a major advertising
agency, followed by an extensive tour of duty as CEO of PMB Print Measurement
Bureau, Canada’s magazine–based single–source media /product JIC. While
doing this he also found time to write a book on 'Television Advertising Wearout'
on behalf of the Association of Canadian Advertisers, and consulted on
television buying for the Federal Government. He was also a co–founder of the
Internet Advertising Bureau of Canada which he ran as CEO for the first three
years.
Through
his company, interACT Research Communications, he also acted as Technical
Director for the Medical Media Measurement Bureau. Latterly he was heavily
involved as a Business Development Vice President in the burgeoning field of
mobile advertising in Toronto and in Washington.
In
industry work John was a board director and Chairman of the Canadian Advertising
Research Foundation, President of the Broadcast Research Group and a founding
board member of the Wireless Advertising Association in the US.
John
began his career in London at Lintas Advertising, and subsequently in media at
Dorland Advertising and Leo Burnett, where he was Group Planning Director. He
was an early chair of the Media Research Group, where he was responsible for the
first research guidelines for commercial radio in the UK, and a member of too
many IPA committees to recall.
John’s mandate for NOP is to drive the development of business strategy for NOP World in expanding its footprint in media research into European markets.
