In spite of the tendency that manifested in the nineties of the aging of the Latin American populations, the fact is that this continent still is, and will be for a long time, an extremely young region when compared to more developed countries. Within Latin America, 42% of the population lies within the age group of below 19 years, compared to 23% in the countries of Western Europe, for example.
