Definition

Voice technology refers to the means by which a consumer can interact with a device using their voice as the input mechanism. Voice is most commonly used to engage with smartphones and smart speakers, often via interactions with artificial intelligence-powered voice assistants. However, voice is rapidly extending to new environments, and can be used to control household goods – from coffee machines to television screens – as well as in-car technologies. For brands, this means two options: building voice into their own products and real estate, or developing applications – known as 'skills' on Amazon's Alexa, for example – on existing voice platforms.
