The new faces of gaming

This article looks at the complexity of gaming in 2016 and whether the increasing popularity of gaming among older generations and women is defeating the 'typical' gamer image.
  • In Q3 of 2016, 46% of 35-44 year olds and 27% of 45-64 year olds reported that they play some kind of game, which has been in part due to the rise of smartphone app usage, whilst 44% of women played games in the same quarter.
  • Though the study notes that games companies shouldn't ignore changes in gaming among their core audience, 18-24 year old men, whose proportion of time spent gaming rose from 27% in Q3 of 2012 to 40% in Q3 of 2016.
