Executive summary

An-Nahar is the leading daily Arabic language newspaper in Lebanon. It has a long history of standing up for the people in the face of political corruption.

Following the first nationwide elections since 2009, Lebanon, due to political infighting and gridlock, had been without a government for over five months. When it became clear that a number of politicians were using the press to perpetuate political gridlock, it was an opportunity for An-Nahar to act. And in the midst of the noisy squabbling, our loudest protest would be in the form of silence.
