Recently YouTube blocked access to many music videos for UK users, as a result of a dispute with the Performing Rights Society (PRS) in the UK. The PRS represent songwriters, and collects payment from people who broadcast or play music in public, to distribute among PRS members.
YouTube did a deal with the PRS in 2007, when it was in its comparative infancy, but negotiations stalled earlier this year as the PRS wanted a significantly larger fee to compensate for higher traffic numbers.
