On average, radio reaches three-quarters (74.5%) of households every week across key markets, according to data from IHS Markit included in Ofcom's International Communications Report. Data show that reach is highest in China at 98%, or 457.5m homes in 2017. While the equivalent share dips to 77% in the US, this still equates to 97.2m households, the second-highest among the 11 measured markets.
Five markets fall short of the average: Spain (71%, 13.4m homes), Germany (68%, 28.2m), Australia (65%, 5.9m), Russia (63%, 36.0m), and Japan (38%, 20.5m).
