Display formats dominate Chinese desktop adspend

An overview of desktop advertising expenditure by format in China between 2008 and 2018.

Desktop classified advertising expenditure in China recorded the strongest growth rate over the last decade, according to the latest data from WARC, CTR and iResearch. Between 2008 and 2017, desktop classified recorded a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 42.7%. This is followed by desktop display (+34.8%), other desktop adspend (+25.2%) and search (+18.9%). As a result of search's slower growth rate, display (including video, banner ads and advertorial content) became the largest desktop format in 2017 and is forecast to account for over half (54.1%) in 2018.
