Client-side working grows in appeal for strategists

An overview of the likely career progression for strategists.

The shift in career plans for strategists looks to be away from agencies, according to WARC's survey of practitioners in the Future of Strategy 2021 report.

In this year's survey, 29% of strategists said their next role will likely be at an agency, down from 37% in 2019 and 2020. Future roles have diversified as a result, with selections shifting to a range of other destinations.

A brand role is second in popularity, with 24% of strategists expecting to move there. This is up from 18% in 2019.
