Executive summary

Unemployment is one of the biggest global problems of our times. In Finland, the direct costs of unemployment for society amount to €6bn annually. At the same time, 52% of Finns think they should be prouder of their work.

This was Finland's state of affairs when the country was getting ready for its 100 years of independence. Two globally renowned Finnish employers – Neste and Ponsse – wanted to celebrate the Finnish worker, the builder of our country, on this special day. How could this be done in politically and societally difficult times?
