Volleyball World, a governing body, launched a global campaign to stand up for equality, break down barriers and start conversations.

Background

The world of sport is far from equal. Women make up 40% of the sporting population, however as of 2020, they continue to only receive 4% of the total sports media coverage in print and broadcast. This is despite large increases during key events like the Olympics or World Cup. Additionally, the International Sports Press Survey concluded that more than 90% of articles were written by male journalists and that more than 85% of the articles focused on male athletes. To be more precise, only 8% of the analyzed sports articles were written by named female journalists.
