USA Freedom Corps Encourages Volunteer Service

On September 11, 2001, more than 3,000 innocent people lost their lives in New York, the Pentagon, and in a Pennsylvania field. The American people's response was immediate and generous. From the ashes of that dark day came a desire by citizens to reengage in volunteer service, as we struggled to make something good come out of such evil.
Recognizing this renewed spirit, President George W. Bush issued a Call to Service for all Americans during his 2002 State of the Union address. He said,
