In 1997 advertising agency J. Walter Thompson, which had been associated with the Marines since 1864, was asked to design a campaign for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve's Toys for Tots program, which was celebrating its 50th anniversary. The campaign ran from November 25 to December 20, 1997. The agency's objectives for the campaign were to increase the number of public service announcements (PSAs), dollars, toys, and children benefiting from the program by 10 percent in each category.
