Though by the 1990s it had become a marginal brand, Pepsodent dominated the toothpaste market during the early and middle part of the twentieth century. The Pepsodent Company, which became a subsidiary of British soap conglomerate Unilever PLC in 1944, was also a dominant advertiser, and over the course of several decades it generated a number of memorable campaigns in various media. First there were the print ads of the 1910s and early 1920s, developed by Claude C. Hopkins of Lord & Thomas, that warned against "Film—the robber of all tooth beauty."...
