BACKGROUND
Launched in 1988, Scotland on Sunday filled the gap left by the collapse of The Sunday Standard, but it only captured half of the former quality Sunday's 135,000 circulation in Scotland.
From an launch base of 68,000, Scotland on Sunday sales had increased steadily, if unspectacularly, until 1995 when its growth began to slow, and sales levelled off at around 90,000. See Figure 1 and Figure 2.
