Over the last couple of months, a series of high-profile information/security breeches have catapulted business data collection policies back into the headlines. Personally identifiable data of more than five million Americans potentially were put at risk. Not surprisingly, federal, state, and local governments are spotlighting these issues. As part of the political backlash, marketers could face new efforts to impose government restrictions on their ability to collect and use information about consumers.
