Shopify, Walmart and Pinduoduo lead e-commerce growth

An overview of the top 13 B2C e-commerce companies between 2018 and 2020.

Shopify, Walmart and Pinduoduo were the quickest growing e-commerce companies last year while Alibaba and Amazon continue to dominate in first and second place, respectively, according to a UN analysis of company reports.

Shopify saw the value of its orders, its Gross Merchandise Value (GMV), almost double last year (95.6%) to reach $120bn. This means the Canadian company is now the fifth-largest e-commerce company worldwide, up from ninth in 2019.

Walmart also saw one of the strongest rates of e-commerce growth, up 72.4% to $64bn, while Pinduoduo's GMV grew by 65.9% to $242bn.
