In the early 1990s, Sega was second in the market for home video games, with only a 5 percent unit share, chasing behemoth Nintendo. Although Sega had been the first out with a 16-bit game system, its lead was only temporary. Nintendo released its Super Nintendo system, boasted a larger company, spent more money on advertising, and held 70 percent of the market by October 1992.
