Brand: Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen
Today, we're facing the biggest global refugee crisis since the Second World War. Every year, violence, war, persecution and despair force thousands of people from their homes. Many of them embark on a dangerous journey and live on the road for weeks looking for a safe home. Research has shown that in one year's time, over 15,500 refugees have come to Flanders. All of them in need of shelter, guidance and basic provisions upon arrival. The Refugee Walk, organized by non-profit organization 'Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen' (Refugee Work Flanders), challenges participants to follow in the refugees' footsteps by completing a 40km walk themselves. Blurring the lines between refugees and citizens, the Refugee Walk aims to fuel the conversation about the refugee theme and refugee rights and needs. The second edition of this yearly event took place on September 24th, 2017.
