Square was founded by Twitter's Jack Dorsey in San Francisco in 2009. Square makes it simple and affordable for businesses to take card payments using the Square Reader and app on their mobile phone or tablet.

Square's mission is Economic Empowerment, meaning it exists to allow businesses of all sizes to participate in the economy on a level footing.
