Sherwin-Williams Packaging Coatings (formerly Valspar) was about to launch the food packaging product the world was craving. Unfortunately, global regulatory agencies, U.S.-based non-government organizations (NGOs) and consumer safety groups threatened to doom the product before it ever hit shelves.

Epoxy resins containing bisphenol A (BPA) are used as coatings inside metal cans to protect food and beverages from contamination (such as botulism) and preserve food integrity.
