Columbia Gas: Smart stats sell smart (thermo)stats

Columbia Gas of Ohio, an energy company in Ohio, encouraged customers to purchase a smart thermostat by launching a closed-loop dashboard that helps it to optimise and target customers that haven't yet purchased one.

The Assignment: Motivating the Late Adopters

It was our goal to help Columbia Gas again reach its annual natural gas savings target of 38,984 Mcf (one Mcf is 1,000 cubic feet of gas). A key action to achieve this goal would be to motivate behavior change among the segment of Columbia Gas customers who were late adopters, and, after two years of an existing program, still had not taken action and purchased a smart thermostat. The smart thermostat program is a large contributor to the annual savings target.
