In the Netherlands, our society has moved from a care-taking society to a more individualistic one. This is shown most in the way our costs of care have been arranged by our government. Over the years, responsibility for health costs have shifted from government to individual civilians, with the health insurance companies acting as a gate keeper between the two.

With this shift from government to insurance company (thus individual citizen) as to who foots the bill, there is a constant struggle between providing good healthcare to our citizens...
