The web and the recession are changing high street retail forever
In these turbulent economic times, survival is the name of the game in the retail sector. Analysts predict up to 70,000 store closures in the US in the first half of 2009, and it's not just mom'n'pop stores that are being squeezed.
Giants such as Macy's, Sears and Gap are affected, while here in the UK, Woolworth's and Zavvi (formerly Virgin Megastores) have disappeared completely.
There are beneficiaries – not just budget stores, but mid-market retailers offering quality at a lower price than premium...
