Encouraging Parents to Talk to their Kids About Drugs
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This paper describes the highly successful initial phase of the Commonwealth Government's National Illicit Drugs Campaign (NIDC). Its aim was to enhance parents' and carers' skills in communicating with children about illicit drugs in order to deter drug use. Its success, in spite of the extreme sensitivity of the subject matter and the deeply ingrained fears among parents about engaging their children in conversations about drugs, was outstanding.
