It’s an extremely challenging time for UK retail. The market is polarising, contracting and facing aggressive online competition. However, Matalan continues to grow, and has positioned itself as a strong player in value retail.

The business identified a few years ago the need to evolve and is on a three year transformation journey. This is anchored around six key themes, with investment focused on each. While the business is aware that it needs to change, it wanted to use data and insight to support investment prioritisation and drive customer behaviour.

In this instance, insights have positively impacted on the culture, challenged assumptions, encouraged joined up thinking, directly affecting overarching business strategies. This project has changed behaviours from the shop floor up to the Board .
