I recently received an offer for a business magazine which, having identified me as a 'senior executive,' wanted me to part with $6 for a six month subscription. The blurb promised that the magazine would be key to my future success, as it contained valuable insights that no executive could afford to be without.

Surely, if this magazine was going to bring me a promotion and untold riches, it should cost more than a shoeshine and, as a 'senior executive,' can I not afford...
