Since 1965 viewing behaviour and audience appreciation in the Netherlands have been systematically and continuously charted in a single panel. For the public channels not only the size of a programme's audience but the opinion of that audience was considered important, and for this reason it was decided at the onset to opt for continuous research into both viewing behaviour and programme appreciation.
