Iniciativa Inakost, an NGO advocating for the rights of LGBTI+ people in Slovakia, drove awareness and greater acceptance among the population via a social media campaign that brought together politicians, NGOs and private sector organisations.

First terrorist attack in Slovakia takes two innocent lives

On October 12, 2022, two young people died in a terrorist attack on the LGBTI+ community.

The tragedy underscored the poorlegal situation and social acceptance of queer people in Slovakia, which has long been one of the worst in the EU.

The murder left LGBTI+ peoplefeeling increasingly vulnerable andunsafe. A survey from a leading LGBTI+ organisation showed that 80% felt threatened in public spaces.*
