A history of newspapers spanning more than 2,000 years can be compressed into just 80 for radio. Television, like radio, had its earliest origins in the 1920s, however it only really started to appear in Asia after the Second World War. Its history is thus little more than 50 years old and its influence has been far greater than that of either of its predecessors. Many countries in the region, as will be seen, did not truly kickstart the medium until much later.
