Just over 50 years ago Kemmons Wilson opened the first Holiday Inn in Memphis, Tennessee, after returning from a family holiday discouraged by the lack of decent family hotels. Since then, Holiday Inn has been incorporated in the Six Continents Hotels' portfolio and become the world's biggest and most famous hotel brand, with 1,600 hotels worldwide attracting more than 85 million guests annually (Exhibit 1).
