Play-Doh was a variety of modeling clay distinguished from ordinary clay in several regards. First of all, Play-Doh did not dry up like clay, and, second, whereas clay was usually a dull greenish or grayish brown, Play-Doh came in a variety of colors. In addition, unlike clay Play-Doh smelled sweet, but as many youngsters learned at one time or another, Play-Doh did taste like clay—or at least it tasted the way clay would taste if anyone were tempted to taste it.
