As of the end of 1998, Microsoft, based in Redmond, Washington, was the world's largest software company. The corporation's diverse array of products included the Windows 95, 98, and NT) operating systems, Excel spreadsheets, Word word-processing programs, and CD-ROM reference works like Encarta and Cine-mania. The Microsoft Network provided online content, and its Internet Explorer browser competed with Netscape's Navigator for a share of that lucrative market. With the NBC television network, Microsoft operated the cable news channel MSNBC. It also provided free E-mail and other services....
