Back in May this year, just before the annual 'Upfront' fest, when television buyers in the US lay down around threequarters of their primetime TV budgets for the largest halfdozen national networks, the ABC network announced a strategy to create onehour 'familyfriendly' programming blocks running from Mondays to Thursdays, extending to two hours on Fridays.

This was heralded as 'programming that an entire family of kids, teens and parents can watch together'. Other broadcast networks, such as the WB, have announced a similar focus on 'familyfriendly' programmes.
