This paper was designed for the section of the MRS conference on “Adopting a new outlook”. In order to do so, the authors create a hypothetical agency - Fair Trade Research - as a useful way to think about whether ‘a new outlook’ based on strong socio-political convictions would open up new opportunities for the research industry and its stakeholders.

We've invented a new agency for the purposes of this conference. It's called Fair Trade Research. This bunch of lefty researchers really believe they can make money and change the world into the bargain.

This paper was designed for the section of the conference on “Adopting a new outlook”.
