Brain-scanning has been able to show neurological processes responding to communications. It is still a laboratory process, and we do not know clearly what the responses mean; thus, in practice, brain scans have told us nothing that we did not already know from traditional research. However, it is now reasonably clear that our decisions are largely mediated by emotion, and are often unconscious.
