The birth of the weekly newspaper in England came in 1622, with the publication of The Weekly News under the editorship of Nathaniel Butter. This was followed in the same year by The London Weekly Courant, but both journals were poorly printed and carried little news of interest and importance[1]. The fear of prosecution in the Star Chamber, or the Court of the High Commission, respectively the chief political and ecclesiastical courts, stilted the editors' desires to print material...
