Casagrande & Senzala (The Masters and the Slaves) (1933) discusses the legacy of slavery in the Latin American nation; Raizes do Brasil (The Roots of Brazil) (1936) explores the cultural legacy of Portuguese colonisation; Formao do Brasil Contemporaneo (The Making of Contemporary Brazil) (1942) is an analysis of Brazil over the three centuries to the 1800s; 'Jose', a poem by Carlos Drummond de Andrade, is also recommended.
