New IAB chairman: content is king in an imperfect kingdom

Before an audience containing 1,100 supporters of a digital ecosystem which prides itself on youthful vitality, the new chair of the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) spoke about the length of his career.

"I would venture to say that I have been in advertising longer than anyone in this room," David Morris, chief revenue officer for CBS Interactive, told an opening-night audience at the IAB's 2015 Annual Leadership Meeting. "I got my start in the ad business doing a voiceover in a Clairol TV ad when I was six years old.

"That big break came from my father, Jay, who was the account director at Foote, Cone & Belding. Uncle Greg was over at JWT, Uncle Toby at McCaffrey and McCall. Brother John went on to work at Y&R, Cousin Steve at Lowe & Partners. And I learned the media business at SSC&B."
